LE SMART BURGER Another burger, but this one is smart! Le Smart Burger is a downtown location made for Watch & Eat when the season starts up. They have two flat screens fixed on RDS and fresh home made burgers right off the grill.
It’s not the best burger in the city, or even the smartest. I was talking to Twitter before going and @mrlewburger compared it to Five Guys, while @Chris_Hanna said it was the best burger he ever had in a mall food court.
I hate it when the picture deceives the eater, and Le Smart Burger was not too bright in doing that. The burger looks incredible on paper, but not up to those standards in real life. I don’t judge a burger by it’s cover, so I devoured it with hope. It was a brie, caramelized onions, mushrooms and house sauce burger. A range of sides can be ordered with the burger. From fries to chilly, which is smart I guess.
In the end, the burger was a good snack. The beef is AAA Canadian, the patties are freshly ground, made daily and the restaurant itself was very comfortable. With 10 mins left to a 3-3 game vs. Boston on a Tuesday night after an evening class, Le Smart Burger might just fit the bill. The burger trio was about 10 bucks.

LOS PLANES Have you ever had a pupusa? I was at Los Planes for El Salvadorian. A small and attractive restaurant on Bélanger, Montreal. The place smelled like nothing I’ve smelled before, it was so inviting I actually salivated. The menu was completely in Spanish, but the service was great and our waiter took his time with us. They had one TV playing the sounds of vuvuzelas. And without a doubt, they play the hockey games.
As the saying goes, when in El Salvador, do as Salvadorians do. So we ordered pupusas, their specialty. Pupusas are thick corn tortilla pancake like things that are typically stuffed with cheese, meat and fried beans. They had many options. You add curtido, a fermented and spicy cabbage salad and add some chili sauce to top it off. To me, it was the perfect thing next to the burger to watch a game. I felt brave eating it and it was so inexpensive (2.50 each), I wanted to keep ordering them. The pupusas were so different and tasty, I knew I was going to be back for more.
They only have one TV, and it’s not pretty. But they do show the game and the food there is worth not having any HD. Try their specialty drinks too. Let me know how it goes.
A woman I love inspired me to look for something different in Montreal. I’ve been looking for places to Watch & Eat for about a year. Last season was all about the main big kitchens showing the game. This up coming season, I’m looking for smaller and more diverse places. I’m searching for the gem that plays Montreal Canadiens games and has excellent food. Send me your suggestions please. THANKS!

Two things in Montreal stick out prominently, condo developments and fancy burger joints. It’s hard to find a good and well priced one in the city. But I feel like I’ve found a gem.
The venue had a little of everything. A small and busy second floor terrace overlooking Crescent St, a fully loaded bar and a beautiful HD LED flat screen locked on sports. At first I wanted to sit myself at the bar and watch golf, but I’ve been taking advantage of the off season by talking to people instead.
I was skeptical about the place, burgers are all over and everyone is boasting about their beef. But Burger Bar has one of the best burgers. I know, it’s impossible to say ‘best’ but that day, nobody would be able to impress me more. I ordered the Wild Shroom Burger. Sauteed wild mushrooms overflowing on my plate, caramelized onions, arugula and roasted garlic mayonnaise. It smelled like caramel, melted like chocolate. The bread was soft and lightly toasted, it slowly got soaked in the juices and added a harmonious symphony of taste in every bite. Most importantly the beef was thick and cooked to a medium-well perfection. As you squeezed the burger up to your mouth, you can see the juices flowing out of the reddish beef…
The burger was 12$ and this place is on my top for Watch&Eat this fall. I can’t wait! Best means, one of the best and in my opinion. To really have the best in anything, it’s about consistency and a general consensus, not the opinion of one, but many. Burger Bar; 1465 Crescent St. Montreal
As a Canadian or as a Montrealer?
Montreal plays Boston in the first round and pushes the whole series to a game 7 OT situation. Boston scores on power house goalie Carey Price to win the series in luck. Philadelphia ends up seeing Boston in the second round but is blinded in a 4-0 sweep. Boston goes on to play the super stars, Tampa Bay. Boston is pushed into another game 7 situation, where the only goal of the game -Boston’s - sends the victor to the Stanley Cup finals.
Vancouver beats 2010 Stanley Cup champion’s Chicago in a close game 7 in OT. They go on to play Nashville but sing themselves to victory in 6. Vancouver meets historically upsetting San Jose and eat them up in 5 after phenomenal hockey by Montrealer Loungo. Vancouver, now ‘Canada’s team’ find themselves hosting another historical hockey match-up, the Stanley Cup Finals.
When you’re from Montreal, you only care about one team, The Montreal Canadiens. So as a Montrealer I want Boston to win. As a Canadian, I want Vancouver to win. Montreal will see Boston many more times than they will see Vancouver next season. And there is nothing like beating the Champions, and keeping your enemies close is a virtue.
There is a possibility that hockey in Montreal can suddenly stop tomorrow night. If there is one game that you should be watching, game 6 in Montreal in a must win game situation would be it. It’s not like I lost hope or anything, every year is a Cup year for me. I just like to add a spoonful of reality to my Cup.
If there is one thing that we should be proud of, it’s that we finally have a strong number 1 goalie. From the bench in last years playoff run to the best player on the team, Carey Price will be the sole reason we advance beyond round one this year. Go Habs!
For the ladies: Hockey, guys and food
Montreal has been gracefully blessed with Nos Glorieux moving into the playoffs. With a shutout win vs. the Bruins, Montreal has even more reason to be excited- if you’re a hockey lover that is. Springtime hockey can be difficult for the non-hockey fan. As so many jump on the bandwagon train others just wait for it all to be over. I’ve recently discovered, not all of Montreal loves hockey. Weird I know, but not everyone is perfect. Let me help you out…
The number one question I’ve come across since Spring-Hockey:
Where are all the single guys at?
The question comes from the fact that the dudes are out watching the games instead of hitting the popular girl friendly and trendy venues (apparently).
In all honestly, I’m not really concerned with single guys, but a good part of my circle is. Below you’ll find my list. Don’t hate on me if I missed, but I’m sure someone will score.
Confessional: My yuppie friends end up going for drinks here with their guy friends. Hockey on the side…
Rosalie: They have a bar, show the game and have a special hockey menu.
Rachel Rachel: Trendy venue, trendy food, trendy people and a super girl/guy ratio as the game plays.
Burgundy Lion: A little more pub, but you’re going to find what you’re looking for! Hockey, great food and tons of cool people/dudes.
Lucille’s Oysters Dive: Small and a bit more intimate. Easier for the prey. The game plays over the Oyster bar.
Factory Bar: Tons of professionals looking for a pub like atmosphere, but friendly for the trendy venue seekers too.
