I’m often getting asked where one should go. ‘Something new and happening’ in our small city. I like to pass on the buck and let others answer. Guest blogger Sally gives us the scoop on a perfect little summer venue. - Na’eem

This little bar (Philémon Bar) is nestled in the heart of Montreal’s Old Port and has quickly become my little (ok massive) addiction over the past few months. Its unpretentious and laid back decor will make you think you’re actually hanging out in the Plateau. Beautiful people congregate and sway to the eclectic mix of hipster hits (think Miike Snow) and older, sexy R&B songs you didn’t know you missed until you hear them (a little Aaliyah and Lucy Pearl goes a long way).
Every night at Philémon is different. Thursday’s 5 a 7 crowd consists of professionals of different ages, fresh from a long day at the office, wanting to unwind with a nice glass of wine or five. You can even munch on some tapas style food to coat your stomach for the night ahead and curb that Friday morning headache I bet we’ve all experienced, right? Right?! Friday’s vibe is slightly more mainstream with its music (yet still incredibly cool) and brings in a chill crowd of twenty-somethings, warming up for the weekend. Philémoning on Saturdays is the way to go: gorgeous crowd of friendly men in either dress shirts or tshirts and jeans, women in florals and shorts. You can scope out the entire selection of fish in the sea by hanging out at the bar and getting a 360 view of the whole place to zero in on the “catch of the day” as a fellow Tweep once said. The bartenders are enthusiastic, loving the music and happy to serve you. Rain or shine, you can count on it being crowded on the weekend. The Old Port definitely needs more of these kinds of places! And did I mention the beautiful people?
Happy fishing! - Sally.
